How do I add or remove members from a mail list as an owner?

This guide is written for list admins on lists.gewis.nl and answers the question how you can either add or remove people from a mail list.

This is useful for mail lists that are not open to subscription and thus require the owner to add members. Moderators can not add members to a list, only owners can.

counterintuitively, the easiest way to add members without inviting or user intervention is via the mass operations tab.


To add members

  1. Go to the relevant mail list
  2. Go to the 'Mass operations' tab
  3. Enter the e-mail(s)
  4. Click 'Subscribe users

You will most likely want to use the 'Pre confirm', 'Pre approved' and 'Pre verified' button since this makes for a 'quiet' subscription, where the new member is only notified of the subscription.

To remove members

WARNING: Next to every 'Unsubscribe' button is a 'Unsubscribe All', do be careful

  1. Go to the users tab
  2. Select the users you wish to remove
  3. Click 'Unsubscribe Selected'.
